Back in the spring, we made a video about different host plants for butterflies, and you all loved it. But butterflies also need nectar-rich blooms for food. Here are 3 popular options:
Lantana: Easy-care, drought-tolerant, and the perfect landing pad for butterflies to stop, rest, and feed. According to the US Forest Service, Monarch Butterflies in particular can travel between 50 to 100 miles in a day, so taking a little break is needed.
Salvia: Produces a plethora of nectar-rich flowers that bloom year-round. The tubular flowers make it easy for butterflies to suck up nectar with their proboscis. We also stock a native variety.
And Buddleia, AKA the Butterfly Bush. The large flower clusters combine the benefits of Salvia and Lantana. They feature dozens of nectar-rich blooms and act as a great landing pad.
And make sure to attend our FREE Butterfly Gardening Seminar this Saturday, September 23rd at 10 am. Joey will discuss how to attract certain butterflies with various plants. We hope to see you then!
