Five plants that can withstand high winds:
Most low-growing or mounding Flowers, such as Blue My Mind® Evolvulus, Marigolds, Dead Nettle, or Coreopsis.
Grasses: with dense roots and long, flowing blades, grasses were basically designed for strong winds.
Azaleas: dense foliage and woody stems make this flowering shrub very sturdy. The Encore® varieties are our favorites since they bloom spring, summer, and fall.
Most Citrus Trees: once established, they have sturdy branches and flexible wood, helping them withstand our windy winters.
Crape Myrtles: feature very hard wood and a wide root zone. They might look unattractive now but trust us when we say they’re stunning come early spring. Plant now to get established before our hot, humid summers.
Bonus category! We can’t forget most Florida natives. They’re used to our crazy weather and are capable of forming deep roots in our sandy soil. Plus, they’re easy-care.
We have so many other options, so make sure to stop by soon.
