Hurricane Milton

Hurricane Milton

As you are reading this on Thursday morning, Milton will just be through our area. I am writing this on Tuesday evening, and the latest model run has just suggested a slightly more southern track. I think one of the biggest challenges before a hurricane is the waiting. It’s like watching a turtle race. It takes a loooong time. That waiting and wondering is tough. Checking your phone every three hours for a forecast update. Every six hours wondering if the track will have changed a little bit. Listening for evacuation orders. Checking in on friends and family to see what decisions they are making and how they are doing. I ended up mowing the lawn on Tuesday since hurricane preparations at our house and at the nursery were complete. Not really necessary, but it gave me something to do instead of micro-analyzing every tidbit of information I could find to try to figure out how bad Wednesday and Thursday were going to be.

The waiting is now over, and Milton is on his way to the other coast. As we wake up and take stock of the damage Milton caused, I truly hope that everyone in the Kerby’s Community is OK. Later today, once it is safe, I’ll head up to the nursery and see what it is going to take for us to get the place back in operating condition.

Regardless of the outcome of the storm, it’s important to remember that the sun always rises and that there are always brighter days ahead. Continue to be safe as the storm passes and our communities assess damage. Kerby’s will be closed today (Thursday the 10th) and we won’t reopen until it is safe to do so. When the sun does rise and clean-up is complete, we will be ready to help you get your gardens back into shape for Fall.

Happy Gardening,

Many of us have a hot beverage we love in winter or at the holidays. For Joey’s family, it wasn’t traditional hot cocoa.
