Girls (Abby and Maddy) Helping Pull a Pipe Through a Floor

It’s Good to Have Helpers

I have procrastinated on fixing our icemaker for a good long while now. A leak in our refrigerator was traced back to the ice maker hose. Usually a simple fix, but since our refrigerator is built in, pulling it out is a chore. It is heavy, and visions of scratching the floor or toppling the entire unit over made filling ice trays a few times a week easier than embarking on an arduous repair.

Then at the nursery one afternoon, I came across a spare hose. It was a sign. It’s time to fix the icemaker. But I still wasn’t real keen on dragging the behemoth out from the wall. How could I fix it without an undue amount of work? And then I realized that if I fed the pipe down through the floor attached to the old pipe, I might just be able to avoid the big move.

But I needed helpers. I couldn’t be upstairs and downstairs at the same time. Kim had run to the store for groceries, so I called for assistance from Abby and Maddy. Could I make plumbers out of them? I decided to try and told them what to do. “Pull gently on the old pipe to feed it through the floor, and when you see the new pipe, let me know, so we don’t go too far.” We got it about a foot, and then it stuck. The girls said they couldn’t pull anymore. Ugh. But then working together, we moved the pipe back and forth until the new pipe emerged below the floor. After a simple connection, our icemaker was back in business.

I couldn’t have done it without my two little helpers. Now we have ice, and we didn’t have to move the fridge an inch. The girls were proud of their assistance, and I’ve got my eye on some other projects around the house that I’ve been putting off. With two great helpers, I know we can accomplish them.

And when we have finished all of our tasks, we are going to go outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. I always love the first cool snap, when the weather starts to match up with pumpkin-spice everything. And speaking of pumpkins, our pumpkin delivery is running a little behind, but we are expecting them in soon. Follow us on Facebook or Instagram to see when they’ve arrived. Gather your helpers, it’s time to make fall happen.
