I know that Taylor Swift is a singer. Because it is constantly in the news, I know that she is dating Travis Kelce from the Kansas City Chiefs, and I know that her Eras Tour is wildly successful. That’s pretty much the extent of my Taylor Swift knowledge. I do know some of her songs, though I don’t always know that I know them until one of my daughters tells me.
And, boy, do they like to tell me. As you know from last week, we have a teenager in the house. I don’t know when it happened, whether it is the teenage status or what, but we have become a household obsessed with Taylor Swift. Halloween costumes, birthday party, we’ve had an entire month now of Swift-obsession.
The other day, one of the girls asked me, “What is your favorite Taylor Swift song?”
I did the generic non-committal answer, “Well, honey, I just kind of like them all.”
That was not good enough.
She pressed me, “But, Dad, what is your favorite era?”
Era? I’m pretty partial to the 90s. MTV played music videos, Stone Temple Pilots was in their heyday, and nothing from high school or college was documented on social media. Yup, I’m going with that era.
To which she replied with a disapproving look in her eye, “C’mon, Dad, your favorite album. Is it Midnights, Folklore, 1989, Fearless . . .” and the list kept going. Somehow, I wormed my way out of picking a favorite, but that hasn’t stopped the excited talk about Swift, the constant blasting of a variety of her music, and to top it off, we went and saw the Eras Tour movie this past weekend. It was a pretty amazing show. It’s no wonder it is consistently sold out around the world. So now I guess I am an honorary Swiftie. We are having an Eras party this weekend, complete with 6 additional Taylor Swift fans sleeping over at my house. Wish me luck…
As the seasons roll along, at Kerby’s we are moving into our Thanksgiving era. Sure, some of our Christmas plants like Holiday Cactus and Reindeer Philodendron have started to arrive, but we’re trying not to just leap over Thanksgiving. So if you need to get ready for your big dinner, we still have a few seats left for the Fall Flower Arrangement Make & Takes this Saturday. See shop.kerbysnursery.com for details and to get tickets. We promise: no Taylor Swift music. Just a great time celebrating the season of Gratitude.
