Beneficial Beetle

As we were cleaning up our yard post-Milton, I pulled away a pile of rotten logs and came upon a group of enormous beetles. I’ve seen these before, and it’s always when I’m moving old branches, logs, or stumps. They startle me every time because they are enormous at over one inch long!

But they are harmless, and in fact are beneficial, as decomposers of wood.

They won’t eat your home and don’t feed on other plants. They just munch away at old logs and stumps, helping to create rich organic soil that is good for new plants to grow in.

The next time you see these guys, tell them thanks for the hard work!

Anybody can sell you plants, we make sure you succeed.
