Putting Up a Tent

Biking, Hiking, Camping, and Climbing

By Maddy Bokor:

Those are super-exciting words to my family, but especially to my dad. The problem is we live in Florida and it’s FLAT! So to solve the problem, whenever we want to go camping we just pitch our tents in the backyard and pretend we are in the mountains. At night time we start roasting marshmallows on our firepit and then curl up in our sleeping bags.

This year my dad is taking me camping in Virginia. I can’t wait to go; this will be my second time camping in the mountains ever. I love camping so much! The chicken dumplings my dad makes are amazing, and going down to a nearby stream to pump water in our bottles is super-cool.

Cooking Over a Campfire

But the best part is where you get to wake up in the cold morning with warm mugs of hot cocoa and then spend the day walking in nature with all the sights and sounds. And you get to sleep under stars that are twinkling and listen to owls that are hooting. Also, I love the wildflowers you get to see and wild strawberries you get to eat, too. Near one of our campsites there were wild deer. They were beautiful! And there was also a big stream; it was fun to wash off our hot hands and feet with nice, chilly water.

Biking is fun, too. My dad loves it, and so do I, whether we’re on a bike trail or taking a quick bike ride through the neighborhood. It’s always fun when we go as fast as we can with the wind whipping through our hair. I love that my dad loves Biking, Hiking, Camping, and Climbing because of how fun they are. And because they are something we get to do together.

Happy Father’s Day, Dad! I hope we have a year full of adventures.

Maddy and Joey on a Hike

From Joey:

And Happy Father’s Day to my dad and all of the dads out there. I hope your weekend is relaxing and that you get to do some of the fun things that you like to do. You know I’ll be biking, hiking, camping, climbing, or maybe a combination of all. If you could work gardening into those, it would make for a perfect Life Lived Outside.

P.S. Don’t forget our new monthly Yoga in the Garden on July 1 at 9:30 am. You’ll receive the Yoga Session (approximately 1 hour), a Complimentary Houseplant, and a 20% Off Coupon (see coupon for details, valid through July 31, 2023). No yoga experience necessary!

Maybe Dad would want to do it with you as a Father’s Day present!

100 mile-per-hour winds, torrential rains, falling trees, heavy equipment, and pruning were thrown at Joey’s bushes, and they just kept on growing.
