Assess the Location
- How much sun does the area receive?
- What is the soil condition (sandy, clay, etc.)? Will it need amendment?
- Which direction does the area face?
Plant Properly
- Amend the soil if needed.
- Never plant deeper than the existing soil level.
- Use hardy plants that are right for the location.
- Water well to establish a deep root system.
