Embrace the Glimmers

It seems everyone today talks about triggers. Things that make you anxious, things that make you tense up and stress out. But the other day I read something that said that the opposite of a trigger is a glimmer. Triggers are signs of danger, pain, or something that needs work and attention, designed to activate your nervous system to deal with threats. Glimmers, on the other hand, are like your nervous system giving you a high-five. Reminders that everything is going OK and systems are running smoothly. That you are safe.

I think sometimes we get so focused on the stress, the bad things, and the things that could go wrong that we forget to see little glimmers throughout the day. Those moments when our dog greets us with a wagging tail and wants to snuggle up after not seeing us all day. The hug from your kids when you head off to work. A smile when you get a funny text from a friend. A squeeze of the hand from your significant other. Little things like this are often sprinkled throughout our days, we just have to open our eyes to see them. And I’ll bet if you start focusing on glimmers, you’ll see more and more of them, the same way that stars in the sky just keep appearing the more that we stare up. Let these glimmers lead your life. Sure, there will be triggers. Life is not stress-free, but my hope for you is that the glimmers are what you make the center of your life!

Dwarf Meyers Lemon Tree with Bloom

Without a doubt, the garden has no shortage of glimmers! It is such an amazing place to bring us hope, joy, and satisfaction. A glimmer for me is seeing my fruit trees start to flower in the spring, and then those flowers slowly turning into fruits with each passing day. And I can’t wait to share my love of growing fruit trees with you this Saturday at 10 am at our Fruit Trees for Florida Seminar & Tasting. I’ll share all of the tips and tricks that I’ve learned over the years, starting over 40 years ago in our backyard orchard at home. We’ll talk about planting, feeding, watering, maintenance, harvesting, and pruning, and you can ask me any question about any fruit tree that you want. Come out and let’s have some fun.
