So today I’ve got part exciting news and part funny story. The exciting news is that we got our first trademark for The Kerby’s Houseplant Shop: Home is Where Your Plants Are®. We feel like that phrase really sums up our feelings about our gardens and our homes, outdoors and indoors. Beyond just where you rest your head at night, where you tend the land and nurture the nature is where your home is. At least that’s the opinion of a lifelong gardener.
So, needless to say, we are excited that we got the trademark. It was a much longer process than we had ever realized that it would be. But now we have a phrase that will continue to be the inspiration for our online houseplant shop as we share #plantlove all over the country and of course for our mission of success locally at Kerby’s Nursery.
Ok. That’s probably more exciting for us than for you. So now I’ll tell you the funny story. My desk in my home office is from before the time of laptops and tablets, so it still has the cabinets and drawers for CPU towers, keyboards, and mice. Given that I use a laptop now, the drawer where the keyboard once went is filled with various odds and ends. Maddy discovered this drawer a while ago and has started occasionally leaving me drawings or poems. The other day I was hunting for a microphone or headphone jack and as I opened the drawer, I saw what I thought was our new trademarked phrase written with a little drawing. So cute. But as I looked closer, this is what I saw.
That’s right. Home Is Where Your Pants Are. Funny, Maddy, very funny, and frankly true as well, but I think we’ll stick to plants for our purposes. I have a feeling that Maddy may someday take over Life Lived Outside. I just hope you are ready for her.
P.S. We hope you are looking forward to our upcoming Plants and Pets event, scheduled for 9am to 1pm on August 20th. To celebrate the dog days of summer, bring your pets to the nursery, and we’ll have a pet photo booth for taking pictures, some refreshment stations for them, as well as learning stations for you about which plants are pet-friendly, both indoors and outdoors. Plus we’ll have our Summer Yard Sale going on. We’re hoping it will be lots of fun for you and your furry friends.
