The Gardenias are massive, blooming, and smell amazing. Here are three care tips to keep them happy.
One: In our zone, Gardenias do best in part sun. If planting in the ground, amend our sandy soil with rich compost, they prefer acidic soil. They also thrive in larger pots with proper drainage. And make sure there’s enough space for good air circulation — this helps with pest control and allows the flowers’ scents to spread.
Two: Follow our watering schedule to establish your gardenia, and maintain consistent watering thereafter. They only need fertilizing about twice a year, once in early spring and again in mid-autumn. Prune expired stems throughout the year; conduct hard prunes in early spring when they’re not blooming.
Three: Pests are known for visiting Gardenias, so be prepared. Try neem oil, Captain Jack’s Deadbug Brew, or copper soap fungicide before the issues take over.
