The amaryllis are blooming! But did you know you can prolong the life of the flowers? Here’s how.
While flowering, keep in bright indirect light; near a sunny window is a great option. Too much direct or indirect light can shorten the flowers’ lifespan.
Consistent watering is also key. Keep the soil moist but not soaking wet; think tropical, not swampy. Water once the top two inches of soil feels dry.
And no need to fertilize while it’s blooming, so just sit back and enjoy these magnificent blooms.
Once the flowers fade, you can compost the bulb, prune them and keep in the pot, or plant the bulb in the ground for springtime flowers. The University of Florida recommends planting before February in partial sun with well-draining soil. From there, they’ll produce even more bulbs, like daffodils, giving you an endless supply of Amaryllis.
