We had the funniest phone call earlier in the spring, and it wasn’t an April Fool’s joke. A customer called and asked if we had Dwarf Bottlebrush in stock. We did, so we let them know, and they said they would come by to pick it up. Then they said something that in retrospect was a little strange. They said they’d come in around noon. The thing is, when we took this call, it was already 1 in the afternoon. (This was on a Sunday, so our hours are 11 to 4.) We figured the customer must have just been confused about the time, but we were still open for a few more hours, so it didn’t seem like a problem.
An hour or two later, the customer called back asking where we were located. We don’t get as many calls like that anymore since smartphones tend to get people here pretty easily. People used to get lost before smartphones all the time. We are South Parsons in Seffner, but just south of us by Windhorst, it’s North Parsons in Brandon. The number of people we’ve had to tell to turn around and come back north before map apps is pretty large. But thanks to our phones, that doesn’t happen much now.
Then the customer on the phone started using street names and city references that did not sound like Seffner, Brandon, Valrico, or Tampa for that matter. As it turns out, they were in Temecula, California and looking for Curby’s Nursery! How funny. And the reason the time thing sounded odd was because they called when it was 10 am out in California, but it was already 1 pm here.
So hopefully they got the plant they wanted from a nursery that wasn’t 3,000 miles away! The funniest thing is that since Temecula is between San Diego and LA, it is in a similar growing zone to us, and so we actually did have the plant they were looking for!
The good news for you? You don’t have to travel thousands of miles for amazing plants, just across town to see us at Kerby’s. And if you’re looking to kickstart your weekend projects, don’t forget about our Kerbside Service. Shop a selection of plants online, and we’ll have them ready for you to pick up for the most time in your garden.
