It’s Mother’s Day weekend. Often for the newsletter, I dig through my memories and old pictures to find a good story about my mom to tell. But this year, Abby and Maddy decided that they wanted to write about their mom, so I’m turning over the story to them. Enjoy.
I know you might be a little confused with the headline. Don’t worry, I’m not going to make you do something weird. Those are just the words my mom says to me and my sister when she tells us to get dressed and pile in the car for a surprise. Sometimes we go to a hotel for a few days like we did on our bioluminescent kayak trip my dad told you about; well, those adventures all started with a “Just Trust Me.”
Our mom loves schedules and anything with organizing, order, and control. Sometimes, though, even she gets a little bored and tells us, “Just Trust Me,” and we run to the car. It’s been a while since mom has done a “Just Trust Me,” but a few days back she told us to put some sunscreen on and that we were heading to pick up Papa for a field trip. We couldn’t wait to see where it was and had no idea what we were going to do. (Just to clarify, Papa is Larry Kerby, our grandfather and the founder of Kerby’s Nursery. We love having him along on adventures!)
Guess where we ended up! At a peach farm! There weren’t many people, and we had fun picking peaches and even eating a few…hundred. It was amazing! We wanted to make peach cobbler, peach dumplings, peach tostadas, and, well, anything with peaches. We all had fun picking tons of peaches, and it even rained peaches when Papa picked one peach a little too hard and it shook a bunch down.
There were peaches of all sizes, and we found a huge peach bigger than my hand, but it wasn’t ripe yet, so who knows how big it will get! All this fun left us with buckets of peaches. And we couldn’t stop coming up with ideas for food with peaches. Now I want to plant the peach seeds so we can pick peaches in our garden.
Happy Mother’s Day, Mom! We’re glad we listened when you said, “Just Trust Me.” I wonder where our next adventure will be!
Thanks, Maddy and Abby, for a great Mother’s Day story. I think it is wise advice to always trust mom. If you need to show mom that you trust and love her, you can always treat her to something beautiful for her garden. We’d love to see you together at the nursery where flowers are plentiful, inspiration is free, and time with mom is priceless. Whether you are a mom to people, pets, or plants, Happy Mother’s Day, we hope you have a great weekend.
