Happy Thanksgiving Sign with Pumpkins

Keep Your Fork

Happy Thanksgiving! This is always a great day to spend with family and friends. To share a meal together and to be intentionally thankful for everything that we have. And on this Day of Gratitude, I want to leave you with a thought about a simple moment during the Thanksgiving meal and how a simple story gave me a new way to think about it.

What’s your favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal? Turkey? Mashed potatoes? Green bean casserole? All possibilities and all tasty, but I’m guessing that the thing you can’t wait for is dessert. Grandma’s apple pie, your sister’s famous pumpkin pie, or the sinfully sugary pecan pie that you only let yourself have a slice of once per year. Topped with a scoop of fresh vanilla ice cream, of course.

I know at my house, as dinner is winding down, someone eventually gets up and starts to clear the table. And as they collect bowls and plates, they often say three little words, “Keep your fork.” I’ve never thought much about those words, but even as a kid, I knew what they meant. Dessert is coming. The best part of the meal is yet to come.

But after reading this story, I now have a different sense of the words “Keep your fork.” Now, instead of just the eager anticipation for dessert, I take them as a reminder that great things are still on the way. The best is yet to come. There are amazing things yet to happen. Keep Your Fork.

We hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday, and from all of us at Kerby’s, thanks for being a loyal customer. We wouldn’t be here without you, and we appreciate the opportunity to be a part of your gardens and your lives. We’re thankful for all of you today and every day. Happy Thanksgiving!

P.S. If you need to burn off some of those Thanksgiving dinner calories, there is no better place than out in the garden. We’ll be open all weekend to help you find exactly what you need.

P.P.S. I sometimes link the Christmas ad from John Lewis (a UK department store), and this year’s, while not as filled with feels, is funny from a plant perspective. Enjoy.

100 mile-per-hour winds, torrential rains, falling trees, heavy equipment, and pruning were thrown at Joey’s bushes, and they just kept on growing.
