I read a great book recently called Atomic Habits by James Clear. One of my biggest takeaways from the book was that small steps can lead to big changes. You don’t have to do everything all at once, as long as you are making progress in the direction you want to go and towards the habits you want to develop.
Starting something new can be daunting but also exciting. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you are looking out ahead and the path seems long. On the other hand, starting something new can be really exciting. I don’t know about you, but when I set my mind on a new habit or hobby, I have the most fun researching the things I need to do and the stuff I need to get, making plans and schedules, and dreaming of what it will be like when I get to my end goal.
That is definitely the fun part. It’s what we do now at the end of the year. But usually, the resolutions we make on January 1st have been moved to the back burner within a week or two. We love the planning and the plotting, but the hard work is, well, hard to do.
So, this weekend, have fun dreaming of new habits, hobbies, and resolutions for your life. Then make a plan and put them into action. Break it into atomic steps, and you’ll find yourself steadily accomplishing what you set out to do. I think we are ready to make 2023 an amazing year.
