Citrus Blossoms

The Smells of Spring

Do you have a scent that pulls you right back to childhood? For me there are a bunch, but one of the strongest is citrus blossoms. Their sweet perfume is heavy in the air during spring mornings and even now, when I walk past our orange and lemon trees, that fragrance takes me back to being a kid on a Saturday morning, aching for 7am when my brother and I were allowed to open the back door and run out into the yard. Scent is one of those intense senses. Physiologically it has a direct path into the core of our brains, where other senses like hearing and sight require a lot of processing. Our noses conjure up memories from the core of our beings. And to me, spring has all of the right smells with citrus, jasmine, and gardenias just beginning to put out their blooms. What a wonderful time of year.

And this week, we are officially kicking off spring at the nursery with our Spring Fling. We haven’t been able to have a celebration like this since our 40th birthday party two years ago, and we are excited to finally be able to host it again. Of course, the stars of the show are the beautiful flowers of spring, but part of our mission at Kerby’s is to not just provide healthy, happy plants, but to make sure you know exactly how to plant and care for them so that you enjoy their beauty for months and years to come.

The highlight of our Spring Fling this Saturday is a series of mini-seminars on all sorts of gardening topics. You can see the schedule below. It features butterflies, houseplants, and edibles which we know are some of your favorite gardening topics.

From 11am to 2pm, The Melt Machine will be on site selling their delicious melty sandwiches. And each hour, on the hour, we’ll be giving away a $42 gift card to celebrate our 42nd birthday. So come out to see us, enjoy the sights and smells of spring and learn how to make your gardens their absolute best this year. Happy Spring.
